Alitalia sold to Air France-KLM
Financially Troubled-some carrier Alitalia has agreed to be sold to Air France-KLM during the board meeting over the weekend….
Air France-KLM agreed to retain the Alitalia brand and services, while helping the Italian carrier to develop extensive network out of Rome, in addition to Paris CDG and Amsterdam Schiphol hub.
In regards to Milan Malpensa Airport, it will be developed as a focus city, focusing on point-to-point route.
Network-wise it will continue to pursue its 3-year plan for the 2008-2010, which focusing on suspension on loss making routes while transferring international service to Rome. Volare, a low-cost brand, will be developed on par to Air France-KLM’s Transavia.
Fleet-wise, by 2010, it expects to operate 137 aircraft which includes 20 long-hauls, 101 medium/short-hauls and 16 regional jets. From 2011, it’ll be introducing new generation aircraft, while the retirement of Boeing 767 will be completed by 2016 and 2020 for MD80s.
Air France-KLM also said it is considering to amend its group name once it completes 100% takeover of the Italian carrier.

Air France cancel Royal Air Maroc codeshares
Air France has cancelled codeshare operation with Royal Air Maroc on the local french cities to Casablanca. The cities in France where Air France codeshares are:
Bordeaux
Lyon
Marseille
Nice
Nantes
Strasbourg
Toulouse
Although Air France claims the codeshare suspension is in effect till the end of April, but the system is not showing codeshare flights beyond 30APR08.
Air Algerie 3 weekly to Montreal
Air Algerie will add 3rd weekly service (Sunday) on the Algiers – Montreal route between 24JUN08 and 26SEP08
EVA 747 to LAX
EVA Air in this Summer will be operating 747 service on selected service of the Taipei – Los Angeles route.
