Air Tahiti Nui from October 2008 is temporarily suspending service to New York. The service usually operates via Los Angeles during winter season in the Northern hemisphere.
The airline is currently studying the Papeete – Las Vegas – New York route.

QANTAS flight QF025 on 15SEP08 was operated by 2 aircraft types.
The Melbourne – Auckland sector was operated by A330-300 (J30Y267) and Auckland – Los Angeles by B747-300 (J52Y398)
No words on why the flight was operated by 2 different aircraft types instead of Boeing 747-300 all the way

Japan/Scandinavia new bilateral
Japan and Scandinavia (Norway, Denmark, Sweden) has concluded a new bilateral deal.
Scandinavian carriers will be able to serve up to 18 weekly flights to Japan. In regards to Tokyo, it can operate up to 10 weekly flights. However, only 1 route can operate up to maximum 7 weekly flights to Tokyo.
Japanese carriers can operate up to 18 weekly flights.
