ASIANA plans to serve Ibaraki
ASIANA has express its intention to operate service to Ibaraki, its 22nd destination in Japan.
Ibaraki is located just North of Tokyo, which will see the opening of Ibaraki Airport in March 2010.
ASIANA would operate 3 weekly service initially with A320.
Pakistan to launch London Stansted
as per Sabre timetable display on 02FEB09, Pakistan International Airlines is launching service to London Stansted.
Service from Lahore operates on Wednesdays and from Islamabad on Fridays. All service operates via Dubai

Virgin Atlantic from 26APR09 to 08NOV09 is suspending London Heathrow – Mauritius service
BA London operation update as of 1500LT
Due to heavy snowfall, the worst in 2 decades according to reports, London Heathrow airport is closed.
According to British Airways, long-haul flights are cancelled until 1700hrs LT and Short-haul flights are cancelled for the rest of the day.
BA is operating out of London Gatwick with delayed schedule. London City airport is closed for the rest of the day
ETIHAD to launch Chicago in Sep 09
ETIHAD today announced to launch Abu Dhabi – Chicago service with A340-500 aircraft starting 01SEP09. Initially service operates 3 times a week but will increase to Daily from 01OCT09.

EgyptAir scales back EU increases for 09 Summer
As per 02FEB09 Sabre schedule display, EgyptAir has reversed some of its planned flight increase for 09 Summer season.
Cairo – Barcelona Planned increase from 4 to 5 weekly, has been shelved
Cairo – Frankfurt Extra 2 weekly service has been shelved
Cairo – Istanbul Planned increase from 9 to 14 weekly has been shelved
Cairo – Paris CDG Extra 3 weekly service, MS803/804, has been reduced to 2 weekly (Day 47)
Austrian to drop 2 East Europe route
Austrian from 16FEB09 is cancelling Vienna – Baia Mare and from 29MAR09 cancels Vienna – Bourgas service

Japan and Belgium last week concluded new bilateral deal
Cargo
Belgium cargo carrier is able to operate service to Osaka and Nagoya, up to 7 weekly. It also has access to operate service via intermediate points like Shanghai
Note TNT is currently studying operation on the Liege – Shanghai – Osaka, by the end of 2009.
Codeshare
Carriers from both sides is able to codeshare between, beyond or within Japan and/or Belgium. This also covers carriers based in the 3rd country
Japan/Thailand new bilateral deal
Japan and Thailand has concluded new bilateral deal.
Tokyo Haneda
Thai carrier will be able to operate 1 Daily Haneda – Bangkok route from Oct 2010. But the rights for Japanese carrier will be ensured.
Tokyo Narita
Thai carrier gains 1 extra weekly flight from March 2010 (estimated), increase to 22 weekly. Currently THAI operates all 21 weekly frequencies
MAS reverse plan to increase Argentina
As per GDS timetable display on 02FEB09, Malaysia Airlines appears to have reversed the decision on increase from 2 to 3 weekly on the Buenos Aires route.
TAROM Munich reductions for 09 Summer
Compared to 2008 Summer period (taken from Official Airline Guide August 2008), TAROM is only operating 1 Daily flight EACH on the Bucharest – Munich and Sibiu – Munich route.
From Bucharest, service operates 6 weekly (Day x6) with A318.
From Sibiu, service operates Daily with ATR42-500
In Summer 2008, service operates 2 Daily EACH.
Pakistan to launch Barcelona in Summer 09
Sabre timetable display as of 02FEB09 is showing Pakistan International Airlines launching new service to Barcelona. HOWEVER, ticket sales are NOT available currently.
Based on the display, the service begins 29MAR09. It operates from Islamabad on Thursdays and Lahore on Sundays

AEROFLOT tentatively set IL96/Tu154 retirement
As per Sabre timetable display on 02FEB09, AEROFLOT apparently has set the timetable to phase out Ilyushin IL96 and Tupolev Tu154 aircraft from scheduled service.

As per GDS timetable display, AEROFLOT from 29MAR09 launches 3 weekly Moscow – Guangzhou route on board B767-300ER.
The route was planned to be launched in March 2008 but never materialized.
