China Southern charter to Mexico

As a result of announcing banning flights from Mexico for at least a week, the Chinese Government has ordered China Southern to operate special charter service to Mexico City and Tijuana on 03MAY09.

The Boeing 777 will operate service to Los Angeles as usual, before heading to Mexico to carry stranded passengers.

Originally China Eastern would be operating the service but it appears Tijuana airport is unable to handle Airbus A340-600.

QATAR reveals 2010 Summer timetable changes

QATAR has already adjusted some of its 2010 Summer schedule in the GDS on 02MAY09.

US Airways announce Mexico service reductions

US Airways has announced it’ll be reducing service to Mexico by 38%, 0.5% systemwide, from 10MAY09 to 01JUL09. It currently operates service to the following cities:

Acapulco (ACA); Cabo/Los Cabos (SJD); Cancun (CUN); Cozumel (CZM); Guadalajara (GDL); Guaymas (GYM); Hermosillo (HMO); Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo (ZIH); Manzanillo (ZLO); Mazatlan (MZT); Mexico City (MEX); and Puerto Vallarta (PVR)

Changes has not yet reflected in the GDS on 02MAY09, but this should changed over the weekend.

The Phase 1 reduction covers 10MAY09 – 31MAY09. Phase 2 reduction will be reflected in the GDS on 08MAY09, for 01JUN09 to 01JUL09 travel.

AeroMexico cancels Shanghai temporary

China on 02MAY09 announced it’ll temporary ban flights to/from Mexico.

As per GDS availability and inventory display, AeroMexico is cancelling the week of 04MAY09 service on the Mexico City – Tijuana – Shanghai route.

UNITED Mexico Reductions/Cancellations in May 09

UNITED on 01MAY09 announced temporary reductions to Mexico for the month of May and June.

Starting 05MAY09, it’ll operate 24 weekly flights instead of 61, and June operates 52 instead of 90.

Following routes is cancelled from 05MAY09 to 01JUN09:
Chicago – Puerto Vallarta
Denver – Cancun
Denver – San Jose del Cabo
Los Angeles – Mexico City
San Francisco – San Jose del Cabo
Washington – Cancun

Note some routes above are showing 0 in the availability. However selected dates sees C1D1 availability status

Denver – Puerto Vallarta 05MAY09 – 04JUN09 Day 24 cancelled. Day 67 continues operating
Los Angeles – San Jose del Cabo Service unaffected
San Francisco – Mexico City 05MAY09 – 04JUN09 Day 135 cancelled
San Francisco – Puerto Vallarta Service unaffected
Washington – Mexico City 05MAY09 – 02JUN09 Day 2467 cancelled

Continental announce Mexico cuts

Continental on 01MAY09 announced temporary reductions on its Mexico service. Although it will maintain service to 29 Mexican cities, it will see the reduction of flight departures by up to 40% (up to 50% in terms of available seat miles; ASM). The airlines’ overall operation sees a reduction of 2% in terms of ASM for May 2009, compared to original schedule

Most of these cuts goes in effect from 10MAY09 till 31MAY09 (some starting 05MAY09). The airline will continue to evaluate the situation regarding the A/H1N1 Virus development which would impact June operation. Also note on selected flights that continues to operate, service may be operated by smaller aircraft. On those routes operating Daily but reduced to average 5-6 weekly, service does not operate on Day 23.

The following info is based on GDS timetable/availability display on 02MAY09, in comparison to Continental’s PDF timetable (02MAY09 edition, which not yet reflected to the changes) for May 2009.
