S7 to join oneWorld
oneWorld Alliance today announced that Russian carrier S7 Airlines will be joining the alliance, after 18-month intensive talks with British Airways, which will be sponsoring the Russian carrier’s entry.
The integration will begin from June, as the airline will begin participating oneWorld’s round-the-world pass.
S7 should be entering the alliance as early as 2010, but depends the timeline on its IT system re-alignment with oneWorld.
With the S7 entry, oneWorld will serve up to 750 destinations, which S7 brings in 54 new unique destinations. 35 of these destinations are in Russia. It also offers 8 new unique countries: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
Aegean Airlines to join Star Alliance in 2010
During a press conference today in Athens, the Star Alliance has announced the membership application of Greek carrier Aegean Airlines has been accepted.
Established in 1999, Aegean operates 31 aircraft to 47 domestic and international routes, offering 200 daily flights. It operates 23 routes in Greece in particular. In 2008, it became the largest Greek carrier in terms of passenger numbers.
It should take the airline within 12 months to become a member officially.
Once the membership entry process completes, Star will serve over 1000 destinations in 176 countries, with 26 (including future members) and 3 regional members offering 21000 daily flights
KLM/TAROM to launch codesharing
KLM starting 01JUN09 will begin codesharing on TAROM service. It’ll be placing its “KL” code on TAROM’s domestic Romania service, and from 06JUN09 on TAROM’s Bucharest – Amsterdam route.

TAROM returns to Amsterdam from Jun 09
