QATAR announce Melbourne launch from Dec 09

QATAR Airways today announced it’ll launch 3 weekly Doha – Melbourne service onboard Boeing 777-200LR from 06DEC09.

It plans to increase the service to Daily by 2010. Melbourne will be QATAR’s first long-awaited destination in Australia

Ural Appears to retire all Soviet fleet from scheduled svc

As per GDS timetable display on 17JUN09, Ural Airlines appears to have pulled all Soviet-built aircraft from its scheduled service (assuming these aircraft types has been retired). This includes Ilyushin Il86, Antonov AN24, Yakolev YK42 and Tupolev Tu154.

With the retirement of these fleet types, Ural Airlines now mainly operating Airbus A320 series. HOWEVER, some routes still sees Tupolev Tu154 operating. The following are the changes:

China Airlines 6 weekly to Surabaya for 2 weeks in Jun/Jul 09

As per GDS timetable display on 17JUN09, China Airlines is operating service to Surabaya 6 times a week on selected periods in late-June/early-July 2009. Although service routes via Singapore, it’ll still operate Daily flight to Singapore.

Reduction period is the following:

Turkish gets approval for Toronto service

Turkish Airlines has applied for service to Canada with Canadaian Transport Agency on 11JUN09 for scheduled and non-scheduled service to Canada.

For scheduled service, it applied for Istanbul – Toronto route, and has received approval for this operation.

Exact details on the launch dates and schedules should be announced in the coming weeks.

ANA Final 747-400 Int’l Service now planned 23OCT09

As per GDS timetable display on 17JUN09, ANA appears to extend Boeing 747-400 long-haul operation by another 2 months. Previously, the GDS display was showing last flight is Tokyo – Paris CDG on 31AUG09

Per display,the last ANA 747-400 international service is now scheduled on 23OCT09, still Tokyo – Paris CDG, which operates along with 777-300ER on alternate days. The 747 operates on odd dates and 777 on even dates.

As per GDS timetable display on 17JUN09, THAI has shelved planned resumption of the Chennai – Dubai service from August 2009. It plans to resume the service from 25OCT09.

For the time being, Bangkok – Chennai sector operates Daily with night-time/red-eye service (TG337/338) with A300 or A330

MEXICANA drops Monterrey – NY

MEXICANA has cancelled its 1 Daily Mexico City – Monterrey – New York JFK service since late-May/early-June.

Air China launch Hubei branch on 25JUN09

Air China on 25JUN09 is launching Hubei branch, which sees 3 NEW routes taking off from Wuhan on that day, in addition to current Beijing – Wuhan and Chengdu – Wuhan service.

The launch is basically a takeover of the remaining ashes of the collapsed low-cost carrier East Star Airlines, which over 500 staff from the collapsed carrier will join Air China.
