Gulf Air/SNCF codeshare begins

Gulf Air since 15JUN09 has launched air-rail codeshare deal with French Railway company SNCF with connections to 19 cities in France and Belgium.

The codeshare list is the following. Note some flight numbers/rail operation operates on certain days only.

Air Canada Sep 09 Codeshare flt nbr shuffle

As per GDS timetable display on 18JUN09, Air Canada from 02SEP09 is switching its codeshare flight numbers on flights operated by ANA, AVIANCA, EVA Air, SAS and THAI.

The flight number range in AC9000 – 9999 on these airlines will be switching to AC6000 – 6999 series. With the change, only flights operated by Lufthansa, Austrian, Jet Airways and Singapore Airlines still uses AC9000 – 9999 series.

airBaltic to launch Pskov and Warsaw from Sep 09

airBaltic on 17JUN09 announced it’ll be launching 2 new routes starting in September, with service to Warsaw in Poland and Pskov in Russia.

As per GDS timetable display on 18JUN09, planned ETIHAD Airbus A330 service on Abu Dhabi – Moscow Domodedovo route in September and October 2009, has been shelved.

Alaska adds 4th weekly Bellingham – Vegas from Aug 09

Starting 03AUG09, Alaska Airlines is starting 4th weekly flight on the new Bellingham – Las Vegas service, which is due to launch on 25JUN09.

New frequency is on Day 1, in addition to Day 457

AEROFLOT 767 to Bangkok in Jun/Jul 09

As per GDS timetable display on 18JUN09, AEROFLOT’s 2 weekly Moscow – Bangkok service is to be operated by Boeing 767-300 from 24JUN09 to 29JUL09, replacing Ilyushin Il96.

Il96 service currently planned to be resumed from 01AUG09

As per GDS timetable display on 18JUN09, AEROFLOT’s Daily Moscow – Shanghai service has switched back to Boeing 767-300 for the rest of Summer season.

Service is to be operated by Airbus A330 once again from 24OCT09

Ethipoian scales back/postpone HK increase

As per GDS timetable display on 18JUN09, Ethiopian Airlines has temporary postponed planned increase to Hong Kong. Also, planned increase has been scaled back slightly.

Addis Ababa – Bangkok – Hong Kong Increase from 3 to 4 weekly from 18AUG09 (Day x157 from ADD; was planned 5 weekly).

More lighters found stuck in airplane seats: Japan

Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) today issued a press release regarding last week’s order on searching for foreign objects hidden in the airplane seats.

This is due to this month’s incident on a JAL Boeing 767 which a seat caught fire, which later confirmed it was caused by a lighter stuck in it.

511 aircraft from 21 airlines were searched, and 76 lighters were found on 57 aircraft. The breakdown are:
JAL Group Total 270 aircraft, 59 lighters found on 43 aircraft
ANA Group 203 aircraft, 6 lighters on 6 aircraft
Skymark 11 aircraft, 8 lighters on 5 aircraft
AirDo (Hokkaido Int’l) 8 aircraft, 1 lighter found
Skynet Asia 4 aircraft, 1 lighter found
IBEX 4 aircraft, 1 lighter found
Other airlines 7 aircraft, NONE

US swap 2nd A330-200 Destination: Now London

As per GDS timetable display on 18JUN09, US Airways’ 2nd long-haul A330-200 route is now showing London Heathrow instead of Munich (posted on 26FEB09).

The A330-200 enters service on Philadelphia – London Heathrow starting 02NOV09. Munich is now scheduled to be operated by Boeing 767 as usual for Winter.

China Southern Sydney reductions in Jun/Jul 09

As per GDS timetable display on 18JUN09, China Southern is reducing service to Sydney from 5 to 3 weekly during selected periods in June and July. The adjustments are:

China Eastern reduce Australia service from Aug 09

As per GDS timetable display on 18JUN09, China Eastern is reducing Australia service starting August 2009. The changes are:

Shanghai – Melbourne from 04AUG09 to 31AUG09 reduced to 2 weekly (Day 25 from PVG), then increase to 3 (Day 257) thereafter
Shanghai – Sydney from 10AUG09 to 29AUG09 reduced to 3 weekly (Day 146 from PVG), then increase to 4 (Day x237) from 31AUG09

The Shanghai – Melbourne – Sydney – Shanghai service, is cancelled from 01AUG09 (PVG departure)

As per GDS timetable display on 18JUN09, THAI is temporary reducing 1 weekly frequency each on Bangkok – Guangzhou and Bangkok – Kunming flight.

Guangzhou service operates 10 weekly instead of 11 weekly (Day 135 instead of Day x246 on TG678/679)
Kunming service operates 4 weekly (Day x256) instead of 5 (Day x36)
