ANA launch Female-only Washroom on Intl Aircraft

by JL

ANA today (23FEB10) announced the launch of Female-only Washroom on International operating aircraft. This service is the first in Japan, and believed to be among the first for any carrier in the world.

From 01MAR10, ANA’s all International operating aircraft, excluding Airbus A320 and Boeing 737, will be gradually equipped with “Female-only” washroom.

The “Female-only” washroom is located at the rear of the aircraft, with the door sign showing a female sign. Hygiene products for females will also be gradually introduced. Most international aircraft, Boeing 767/777, will have this service by the end of April 2010.

However, this particular washroom will still be available to male passengers under following situations:

  • When required for safety reasons, just prior to the seat belt sign being turned on during take-off and landing.
  • When a passenger is not feeling well and a personal emergency requires such use.
  • When there are very few female passengers and the women-only designation has been lifted for the flight.
  • An in-flight announcement will be made in such cases.

on KE planes I have been on between ICN-BKK they also have signs in some of the washrooms that had said women only. Not sure if something that was enforced but I peeked in to see what was different from other washrooms and it just had flowers in a vase.
