by JL

Spirit Airlines on Tuesday 06APR10 announced latest revamp to its pricing structure, and launching the world’s first “Carry-on bag” surcharge.

The new pricing structure, dubbed “Penny Plus Fare“, is available to the airlines’ $9 Fare club members, which sees most Spirit’s nonstop route market offering base fare at 1¢, taxes and fuel surcharges excluded.

In addition, the airline is launching “Carry-on bag” fee, which is effective for reservations purchased after 05APR10, for travel on/after 01AUG10. The carry-on bag surcharge is available for purchase on/before 01JUL10, which applies to those being placed in overhead bins. Personal items that are able to place under the seat is free.

The carry-on bag fee is divided into 3-tiers, ranging from $20 to $45:
$9 Fare Club Member $20
Online (non $9 Fare Club Member) / Phone or Check-in $30
At Gate $45

Above are the main highlights of the radical changes. Complete details can be found on the airlines’ website.

Thats how these airlines are still in business in this current global market crisis. These airlines will never consider and will never give importance to customer satisfaction and customer services.

    Interesting Post.

This will open a precedent to other airlines do the same. This is more hunger to catch a penny than other thing. Customer satisfaction is good only for the business plan.
