Indonesia Air Asia to launch Medan – Hong Kong from mid-Jan 2011
Indonesia Air Asia starting 16JAN11 launches 4 weekly Hong Kong – Medan service, which is the only operator on this route. Service operates with Airbus A320 aircraft. This also marks Air Asia Group’s 6th route to Hong Kong.

Ryanair basing 6 new aircraft across Canary Islands with 35 new routes from Feb 2011
Ryanair announced it is basing 6 Boeing 737-800 aircraft across the Canary Islands from 01FEB11. 2 aircraft each will be based in Las Palmas/Gran Canaria, Tenerife del Sur and Lanzarote.
Basing 6 aircraft will allow the airline to launch 35 new routes, which eventually see 112 routes operating to/from the Canaries. New routes as follows:

Silk Air to launch Pekanbaru, Indonesia service from late-Feb 2011
Silk Air from 28FEB11 is launching 3 weekly Singapore – Pekanbaru service on board Airbus A319 aircraft. Pekanbaru is Silk Air’s 8th destination in Indonesia.

Turkish Airlines improves Tokyo Narita operating schedule in S11
As per 02DEC10 GDS timetable display, Turkish Airlines from 27MAR11 is adjusting operational schedule on 6 weekly Istanbul – Tokyo Narita service.
Overall departure and arrival time in both direction will be 2 hours earlier, which allows same-day connection from Tokyo to 13 European cities, instead of present 2. TK reports that 25% of its travelers on this route are connecting passengers, which the Star Alliance carrier hopes to increase to 40% by 2011 (report by Japan’s Travelvision on 30NOV10)

As per GDS timetable display on 02DEC10, QANTAS on 11DEC10 is to operate Airbus A330-200 aircraft instead of Boeing 747-400 on Sydney – Los Angeles QF011/108 service. Due to the aircraft change, it will be making a stop in Auckland

ANA Opens reservation for S11 Tokyo Haneda – Honolulu service
As per 02DEC10 GDS timetable and inventory display, Star Alliance member ANA opened reservation for Tokyo Haneda – Honolulu service in Summer 2011 season, effective 27MAR11.
Previously the airline’s reservation was only available until 26MAR11, and flight beyond 27MAR11 did not appear in the reservation system.
Ethiopian Airlines re-combine Brazzaville & Kinshasa operation
As per 02DEC10 timetable display, Ethiopian Airlines once again recombine operation to Brazzaville and Kinshasa. The airline is operating Addis Ababa – Brazzaville – Kinshasa – Addis Ababa routing on board Boeing 767, but may be substitute with 757.

Condor to launch Recife / Split / Seattle service in S11
Condor in Summer 2011 season is adding 2 new long-haul and 1 new short-haul services. It is to launch 1 weekly service to Recife from 06MAY11, 2 weekly to Seattle from 23JUN11. Long-haul service operates with Boeing 767-300 aircraft. On Short-haul, it is offering 1 weekly Airbus A320 service to Split in Croatia.
All new services departs from Frankfurt. Further, the German carrier also plans to resume service to Calgary from 24JUN11, which appeared on the blog on 25AUG10

Air Canada postpone Vancouver – Tokyo Haneda launch till Mar 2011
As per 02DEC10 GDS inventory display, Air Canada is postponing the launch date of new Vancouver – Tokyo Haneda service.
The Star Alliance carrier is to start the service from 03MAR11, instead of 29JAN11, citing to demand issues during slow season.
Emirates to launch Geneva service from Jun 2011
Emirates starting 01JUN11 is launching Daily Dubai – Geneva service on board Boeing 777-200LR/-300ER aircraft. Geneva is Emirates’ 2nd destination in Switzerland (26th in Europe; 111th overall destination), according to the press release.

Helvetic Airways to launch Cardiff and base aircraft in Bern in S11
Helvetic Airways o Switzerland in Summer 2011 is introducing 2 new routes – Friday-only service on Bern – Brindisi (eff 22APR11) and 4 weekly Zurich – Cardiff (eff 27MAR11).
