Southwest Airlines adds additional 4 new routes from Newark from Jun 2011

Southwest Airlines announced additional new routes to be launched out of Newark Airport. Starting 05JUN11, it is launching 3 Daily each to Baltimore and Denver, and 2 Daily each to Houston Hobby and Phoenix.

Air China to launch 2nd Daily Beijing – Los Angeles from Sep 2011

As per 16DEC10 GDS timetable display, Air China starting 01SEP11 is introducing 2nd Daily Beijing – Los Angeles CA987/988 service. Not only overall frequencies increase to 2 Daily, there will also be significant capacity increase, with existing CA983/984 service to be operated by 344-seater Boeing 747-400PAX, replacing 280-seater -400COMBI.

Overall, daily capacity is being increased by 344 seats, or 120% per day per direction. CA983/984 will also see schedule changes starting September as well.

Singapore Airlines increasing Osaka and Taipei service in S11

Singapore Airlines from 27MAR11 is increasing service to Osaka Kansai and Taipei Taoyuan. Despite the “increase”, the Star Alliance carrier is restoring flights to the level before major cuts occurred 2007/08 Winter and 2008 Summer season. In Winter 2007/08 season, service to Osaka was 12 weekly nonstop and 7 weekly via Bangkok. Taipei was served 19 weekly in W07.

Ryanair German service reduction in S11

With German Government introducing “Eco-tax” on airfares in 2011, Ryanair announced major cuts out of its 4 main bases in Germany. From 27MAR11, service out of Berlin sees 56% flight reduction (122 weekly flights, loss of 4 routes), 29% for Bremen (58 weekly flights and 8 routes), 21% for Dusseldorf Weeze (84 weekly flights, 13 routes) and Frankfurt Hahn sees a loss of 9 routes and 150 weekly flights.

In total, Ryanair will be canceling 41 routes, 414 weekly flights to/from Germany.

Eastar Jet launch Seoul – Sapporo charter service

Korean low-cost carrier Eastar Jet starting today (16DEC10) launches scheduled charter service on Seoul Incheon – Sapporo route. Service operates 4 times a week with 737-700 aircraft. The airline hopes to convert this service to regular scheduled flight on daily basis by 2011 Summer season.
