What happened to the Cairo Catania flight? It suddenly disappeared from the schedule without further notice.

This was a nice route not only for tourists but also for expats and for people traveling from Sicily to destination covered by Egyptair. Now all the investment done is lost… Not a good way to push the economic recovery of the country…

It’s also canceled. Not sure if this is related due to current military action in Libya or simply canceled due to lower demand.

Well, by coincidence I can see that the Cairo-Catania flight was canceled together with the Tripoli and Bengasi but Catania is in Italy and has very little to do with Libya (even if it’s not too far…).

Low demand was due to the January/February unrest in Egypt. Completely canceling it is a very bad sign if Egypt wants to go back to the level of traffic and tourism of last year. I personally know hundreds of people that were planning to use that route.

I hope that Egyptair will rethink about the decision of canceling definitively the flight and possibly act creatively for those interested in “commuting” on that flight, maybe selling prepaid flight coupons or other.

    Best regards.
