Offbeat: American Airlines Bans Use of Airplane Mode on Smartphone?

On Sina Weibo, the Chinese equivalent of micro-blogging site twitter, American Airlines tweeted that the airline forbids the use of smartphone throughout the flight.
Tweeted on Thursday 01DEC11, the oneWorld member mentioned the use of “airplane mode” shuts down the cellular transmission, but it does not mean it won’t affect aircraft take-off and landings, therefore, smartphone must be turned off throughout the flight. (See screenshot).

Spirit Airlines on late-Tuesday (29NOV11) announced it’ll be expanding service out of Dallas/Ft. Worth, with the launch of 1 Daily flight each to Atlanta and New York La Guardia from 09FEB12; Boston and Orlando from 22MAR12.
Out of DFW, the airline currently offers 2 Daily each to Chicago O’ Hare, Ft. Lauderdale and Las Vegas.
