bmibaby on 09SEP12 operates final flight as the low-cost carrier ceases operation. The low-cost unit of bmi was launched in January 2002 and entered operation in March the same year. Followed by the acquisition of parent company bmi by International Airlines Group (IAG) and subsequent failure to find buyers for this low-cost unit, it was announced on 03MAY12 that the airline will end operation on 09SEP12.

Update at 0600GMT 04MAY12
bmibaby on Thursday (03MAY12) announced that it’ll stop all operations from 10SEP12, as the airline’s future is being evaluated by the International Airlines Group (IAG), followed by the sale of bmi to IAG. The airline will stop operation in 2 phases, with 19 routes cancelled from 11JUN12, while the remaining will be cancelled from 10SEP12.

bmibaby last week announced it is launching 2 more new routes in Summer 2012 season, which sees new service on Belfast City – Mahon (2 weekly) and East Midlands – Catania (1 weekly).
