SWISS in Winter 2011/12 season is increasing offering from Geneva, where it’ll increase service to London city, Madrid and Moscow Domodedovo route.

SWISS W11 Miami Minor Operation Changes
As per 16MAY11 GDS timetable display, SWISS is keeping Airbus A330-300 aircraft on Zurich – Miami service in Winter 2011/12 season, operating 3 times a week. The other 4 weekly flights is served by A340-300.
This changes overall capacity increased by 51 seats per week per direction (A330: 236, A340: 219). In W10, this route saw Daily A340-300 operation for most of winter season.

Edelweiss to launch Summer seasonal Orlando service in S11
Edelweiss Air from 02JUL11 is to launch Summer Seasonal Zurich – Orlando weekly flight on board Airbus A330-200 aircraft. Service operates until 10SEP11.
This new service is made possible with the decision of canceling planned seasonal service launch to Tokyo Narita (First reported on 30MAR11), followed by the drop of demand from March Earthquake.

European Carriers Tokyo service changes 16-17MAR11
As per GDS timetable display on 2200GMT 15MAR11, latest European carriers’ service adjustment for Tokyo Narita for 16MAR11 and onwards as follows.
Lufthansa has become the first European carrier announcing suspending Tokyo service until next week, due to fear of possible nuclear radiation affecting the area. Alitalia becomes the latest carrier to revise NRT operation, which now includes intermediate stop in Osaka on outbound flight.

As per 15MAR11 GDS timetable display, latest revision to European carrier’s Japan operation, in particular for Tokyo Narita as follows.
Currently, changes are in effect until 16MAR11 from Europe departure, 17MAR11 from Japan. Adjustment is need for re-fueling and crew change purposes

SWISS S11 Basel expansion: NEW Copenhagen/Rome service and Barcelona/Hamburg Increase
SWISS announced Basel/EuroAirport expansion in Summer 2011 programm. From 27MAR11, it is launching 6 weekly Basel – Copenhagen and Daily Basel – Rome route. On existing Basel – Barcelona service, flight increases to 8 weekly with additional Saturday late-afternoon/evening depature. Basel – Hamburg will increase from Daily to 12 weekly, which SWISS will offer near-Daily on evening departure from Basel and morning from Hamburg.
These flight increases and new routes are made possible thanks to newly-announced joint venture agreement with fellow Star partner bmi, which bmi will takeover SWISS’ Basel – UK market (See earlier post on 20JAN11), total up to 4 Daily (3 on most days), allowing SWISS to re-assign Avro RJ100 aircraft to other new markets from Basel. Meanwhile, SWISS will cancel Basel – Warsaw service from 27MAR11.

bmi replace SWISS on UK – Basel market from S11
SWISS and bmi at this hour (at time this post goes to press, 0900GMT 20JAN11) is holding a joint press conference at Basel EuroAirport. The press conference includes a joint venture deal on Switzerland – UK market for SWISS and bmi, which both are Star Alliance members and part of Lufthansa Airlines Group.
In addition, from 27MAR11, bmi will take over SWISS’ Basel – London and Basel – Manchester service. For London, SWISS currently operates into London City. However, bmi will operate the service from Heathrow. bmi operates 144-seater Airbus A319 aircraft, which will replace SWISS’ Avro RJ100, which sees additional 47 seats per flight per direction.
